On 19/3/2013, Vietnam National Reinsurance Corporation (VINARE) leaders, Mr Martyn Parker – Chairman of Swiss Re Global Partnerships – Vice Chairman of VINARE Board of Management and Mr Andrej Motyl – Swiss Ambassador in Vietnam had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh.   

In this meeting, Deputy Prime Minister briefed about Vietnam economic achievements since the launch of economic reforms and acknowledged insurance industry’s contributions to socio-economic stability. In particular, Deputy Prime Minister welcomed cooperation between Swiss Re and VINARE and Swiss Re’s support for VINARE and Vietnam insurance market in the pilot Agriculture insurance program according to Decision No 315/QĐ-CP of the Prime Minister and appropriate

Nat Cat solutions for Vietnam. At the end of this meeting, Deputy Prime Minister suggested Switzerland Government, Swiss Cooperation Office for Vietnam (SECO), Swiss Re and VINARE to continue cooperation with Vietnam Ministry of Finance in new areas such as: Agriculture insurance, Export credit insurance, Nuclear insurance, Nat Cat insurance, Microinsurance, etc. 

On the same day, VINARE leaders and Mr Martyn Parker had a meeting with Mr Lai Van Dao – Chief Executive Officer and some high level representatives of SCIC. SCIC and Swiss Re are two biggest shareholders of VINARE: SCIC and Swiss Re currently hold a stake of 40.3 percent and 25 percent respectively. In the meeting, on behalf of SCIC, Mr Lai Van Dao thanked Swiss Re for supporting VINARE’s operations and highly appreciated Swiss Re’s role in VINARE and Vietnam insurance market. SCIC leaders mentioned that VINARE belongs to Group I in SCIC’s strategic investment portfolio.

All parties highly appreciated VINARE’s business results and strategic cooperation between VINARE and Swiss Re. The two parties also committed to support VINARE enhancing competitiveness, developing sustainably, strengthening VINARE’s role and position in insurance market and achieving development targets.
