Cancer is a critical illness and is now becoming more and more popular. Cancer has also become one of the leading causes of death in the world as well as in Vietnam. According to the National Cancer Prevention Project, each year in Vietnam there are approximately 70,000 deaths and more than 200,000 thousands new sufferers. That is an alarming number of cancer situation in our country. As predicted by experts, this number will not stop there, but will even increase in the coming years.

Cancer prevention and treatment expenses are very costly. Given the current low and average income of Vietnamese people, it is very challenging to cope with this illness. Therefore, to proactively prepare resources to mitigate the financial hardships when unfortunately diagnosed with this disease is very important. In this situation, Bao Viet Insurance has cooperated with Vietnam National Reinsurance Corporation (VINARE) and Swiss Re, together with consultation from Roche to jointly design and develop cancer insurance product in Vietnam. This product has been officially approved by the Ministry of Finance to be launched in the market.

On 2^nd August 2016, Bao Viet Insurance has organized the Official launching ceremony of cancer insurance product K-care at Apricot Hotel, Hanoi. In addition to leaders from VINARE, Swiss Re, and Roche, leaders of Association of Vietnamese Insurers, medical experts from K hospital and media agencies also attend the ceremony.

In his speech at the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer Pham Cong Tu congratulated Bao Viet Insurance and highly valued the efforts of experts from Bao Viet Insurance, VINARE and Swiss Re to implement this project. As a reinsurer – traditional business partner of Bao Viet Insurance, VINARE and Swiss Re committed to support Bao Viet Insurance to complete the product development so that the cancer insurance product will be broadly welcomed by the market and to provide reinsurance capacity to ensure the best interest for policyholders as well as financial security for the insurers.

Bao Viet K-care product is not only a normal commercial insurance product but also a product for community that brings great humanitarian value. With this product, cancer patients are shared a part of the financial burden and have more opportunities to successfully cure this disease. With the willingness to support more cancer patients with financial difficulties to have more opportunities to get treatment and to further spread the humanitarian value of this product, Bao Viet Insurance and VINARE have presented a gift of 100 million dong to “Bright Future Fund” – a non-profit organization that supports care and treatment for cancer patients.
