On December 15, during the announcement and award ceremony for companies that won the 2023 Listed Company Awards, Vietnam National Reinsurance Corporation (VNR) was privileged to be among the “Top 10 listed mid-cap companies with the best corporate governance”. The 2023 Listed Company Award is an eagerly awaited annual event, recognized as the most prestigious award for listed companies, organized by Hochiminh City Stock Exchange (HOSE), Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), and Investment Review, with oversight by a Council comprising Big 4 audit firms and corporate governance experts to ensure accuracy, objectivity, and depth in the selection process.

Over the years, VINARE has consistently complied with relevant legal regulations regarding corporate governance in general and those specific to listed companies. In addition, VINARE has made efforts to enhance the quality of governance according to international standards, applying and closely adhering to criteria in the OECD Principles of Corporate Governance and the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard.

Notably, in 2023, there have been significant changes in the evaluation criteria set for the Corporate Governance category. In response to severe climate change situation and complex developments, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has updated and added new rules to corporate governance, emphasizing the integration of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) considerations. Accordingly, the Vietnam Listed Companies Award (VLCA) has elevated the 2023 Corporate Governance Assessment Criteria to a higher level, adding 18 questions, including one about the organization of the shareholders’ general meeting, two about nominating board members to enhance diversity, and 15 about sustainable development and resilience. The voting panel noted that the corporate governance scores of the companies reflect progress and a growing emphasis on implementing good governance practices.

Therefore, being included in the “Top 10 Listed Mid-cap Companies with Best Corporate Governance” is evidence of VINARE’s positive transformation in corporate governance practices, aligning with both domestic and international standards, and a heightened focus on sustainable development, environmental protection, and ESG issues.
